Medina Luxury Continuum-of-Care Community for Older Adults Opens: Named Okalee for Song of Wetland Bird

Named for the song of a wetland bird, Okalee of Medina opened in January at 4350 Chippewa Court, Medina, MN, 55340. Okalee offers independent and assisted living, memory care and care suites for those who need more comprehensive care. Local residents and those in nearby communities will find Okalee’s natural beauty to be a welcoming addition to the Medina landscape.

When asked what he most wants residents to find at Okalee, owner Dean Lunski says, “I want residents to enjoy freedom, joy and the time to do what they’ve always wanted to do.” The community was created to offer a broad range of services to meet the unique needs of older adults. The name Okalee was chosen because it is reminiscent of the local red-winged blackbird, who shares a sweet song of peace and serenity.

In addition to finding the time to follow their passions and delight in nature, Okalee residents will be able to stay in the area they love and have lived in many years. They can be close to family and visit with grandchildren, friends and neighbors who don’t have to travel long distances to see loved ones.

Lunski met personally with local Medina residents to learn more about what they were looking for in a community serving older adults. The replies he received informed his building decisions, including numerous features and amenities:

  • Restaurant-style kitchen
  • Chef-prepared, seasonal meals
  • Fitness center
  • Inviting pub with fireplace and terrace
  • Hair salon for men and women
  • Event center for parties, entertainment, educational programs, movie night, worship services and much more.

Care and services are provided by Cassia, an affiliation of Augustana Care and Elim Care and a faith-based nonprofit organization. Cassia brings more than 200 years of combined experience in serving older adults. Lunski chose Cassia because of its longstanding commitment to helping older people live full lives and stay connected to the people and passions that inspire them.

We look forward to a grand opening celebration in spring and will let you know more in the coming months. Meanwhile, if you’re in the neighborhood, please stop by for coffee and a Danish between 9:00 to 10:30 am on weekdays.
